This is an artist's view illustrating chiral magnetic order
at nanostructure surfaces.
The presence of the so-called Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction
at magnetic surfaces, due to the lack of inversion symmetry,
induces non-collinear order of a specific chirality.
The essence of this picture can be summarized as follows:
Whether nature allows a spin cycloidal to exhibit only
one of the two rotational senses, or both of them,
depends on its being like or alike its mirror
image.
